A Psychiatry Partner for the Clients You Refer
When a client needs a medication evaluation or a diagnostic question answered, you want a psychiatric provider who listens carefully, communicates clearly, and protects the work you are already doing in therapy.
Who this is for
The MindCounsel works alongside licensed therapists, LMFTs, LCSWs, and counselors across California and Hawaiʻi. We see adults by telehealth for psychiatric evaluation and medication management, with a particular focus on the clients who do not fit neatly into a single diagnosis — the ones who have tried several medications, carry conflicting diagnoses, or whose presentation has shifted over time.
What we add to the work you are doing
Therapy and psychiatry work best when they are coordinated rather than parallel. We do not take over the relationship you have built. Our role is narrower and complementary: a careful diagnostic formulation, an honest conversation about whether medication has a role, and clear reasoning the client can understand. When medication is started, continued, or stopped, we explain why, what to watch for, and what the alternatives were.
Referrers consistently tell us the most useful thing we provide is diagnostic clarification — a structured re-look at whether the working diagnosis still fits.
How a referral works
There is no formal referral form and no gatekeeping. You can have the client book directly, or reach out first if you want to flag context. With written consent, we are glad to receive your notes and to send back a concise summary of our formulation and plan so your records stay aligned. Most clients are seen within one to two weeks.
Communication standards
You will hear from us after the initial evaluation and at meaningful changes in the plan — not a form letter, but a readable summary of the diagnostic thinking and the rationale for any medication decision. We are reachable by secure message between visits for coordination questions. We will never make a unilateral change to a client's care without good reason to involve you.
Our shared-care philosophy
We believe the therapist often knows the client best. Our job is to bring a medical and psychiatric lens — ruling in and ruling out, weighing risk and benefit, and optimizing medication — while keeping you in the loop. The goal is a client who understands their own diagnosis and treatment well enough to be a real partner in it.
Frequently asked questions
Do you replace the client's therapy?
No. We provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management and work alongside the therapy you are already providing. The therapeutic relationship stays with you.
How do you communicate back to me?
With the client's written consent, we send a concise summary of the formulation and plan after the initial evaluation and at significant changes, and we are reachable by secure message for coordination.
What kinds of clients are the best fit?
Adults whose diagnosis has never quite fit, who have had limited response to multiple medications, who carry conflicting diagnoses, or who need a careful second look before the next treatment decision.
Do you see clients in both California and Hawaiʻi?
Yes. We see adults by secure video across California and Hawaiʻi, with optional in-person visits in Corona and Honolulu.
