Adults who are ready for a more careful approach
This practice is designed for a specific kind of patient - not everyone, and that's intentional. If what follows sounds familiar, this may be a good fit.
This practice may be a good fit if you:
- Have been diagnosed with depression at one practice, bipolar disorder at another, and anxiety somewhere else — with different medications each time, and none of them have fully resolved things
- Have tried two or more antidepressants or mood stabilizers without meaningful, lasting improvement — and no provider has clearly explained what was tried, why, and what to consider next
- Were evaluated for ADHD quickly and started on a stimulant, but the prescription keeps getting adjusted without a clear explanation of why it isn't working
- Have been on a medication for a year or more with no one revisiting whether it's still the right choice — or explaining what it's actually doing
- Have a medical condition — thyroid dysfunction, sleep apnea, chronic pain, hormonal changes — that your psychiatrist and primary care provider have never discussed together, even though your mental health has gotten worse
- Are considering a major change in treatment — a new medication, stopping a current one, or switching providers — and want an independent, careful evaluation before committing
People often come to this practice when…
Prior treatment didn't lead to the results they hoped for
Medication helped partially. Symptoms improved in some areas but not others. The overall picture never fully resolved.
They're not sure their diagnosis is right
They've been told they have depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or ADHD - but the label has never fully explained their experience.
They've seen multiple providers with different conclusions
Each provider offered a different diagnosis or treatment plan, and there was never a thorough re-evaluation that made sense of the whole picture.
They want to understand before they commit
They're considering a new medication or a significant change in treatment, and they want an independent, careful evaluation before proceeding.
What this practice focuses on
The MindCounsel has an emphasis on mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, and the intersection of psychiatric care with metabolic and overall physical health. The approach is evaluation-first: understanding the full picture before making or changing recommendations.
This is not a high-volume practice. Appointments are longer, evaluations are more thorough, and the goal is always to make decisions you fully understand and agree with.
Who may not be the right fit
Being transparent about this saves everyone time.
This practice may not be the right fit if you need same-day or urgent crisis care - telehealth has real limitations in acute situations, and a higher level of care would be more appropriate.
It may also not be the right fit if you are looking for a provider who will continue or adjust a current prescription without a thorough evaluation first. Treatment decisions here are made carefully, based on a full understanding of your history and goals.
If you are unsure, the New Patients page explains what the first visit looks like and what to expect.
Coming from a referral
Many patients arrive through a referral from a therapist, social worker, or primary care provider. If a colleague sent you here, prior records are welcome and reviewed carefully before your appointment. There's nothing extra you need to do — your referring provider can reach us directly at contact@themindcounsel.com.
For referring clinicians
The MindCounsel partners with other providers on complex cases. See referral and collaboration information for therapists, psychologists, primary care providers, and nurse practitioners, or learn about psychiatric consultation services.
