Medication Management

Psychiatric Medication Management in Honolulu & Hawaiʻi

Careful, collaborative medication management — with the follow-up and attention that make treatment work over time.

Thoughtful management, not just refills

Good medication management is an ongoing relationship, not a one-time prescription. It starts with understanding why a symptom is happening, considers whether medication is the right tool, and follows your response closely — adjusting deliberately rather than reflexively. The aim is the smallest effective approach that helps you feel like yourself.

Adults are seen for anxiety, depression and other mood symptoms, ADHD, and related concerns, as well as diagnostic clarification and second opinions. If your medications have been changed repeatedly without a clear reason, that pattern is worth a fresh look.

  • Clear reasoning for why a medication is recommended
  • Regular follow-up to track response and side effects
  • Honest review of what has and has not worked
  • Coordination with your other care when helpful

Responsible prescribing

When controlled medications are part of a plan, they are managed responsibly and in line with professional and state guidelines. An evaluation does not guarantee that any specific medication will be prescribed; recommendations are individualized and made together with you.

Telepsychiatry is available to adults throughout Hawaiʻi by secure video, including communities such as:

In-person visits are available in Honolulu when appropriate.

Private, discreet care

Mental health care is personal, and many people prefer to keep it confidential. Telepsychiatry lets you meet from a private space of your choosing, without a waiting room and without traveling across the island. Your information is handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws, and visits take place over a secure, encrypted platform.

Using your insurance

The MindCounsel works with several Hawaiʻi health plans, including HMSA and AlohaCare. Because coverage, copays, and behavioral-health benefits vary from plan to plan, we encourage you to verify your specific benefits directly with your insurer before your first visit. Ask about coverage for outpatient psychiatry and telehealth, and about any copay, deductible, or referral requirements. Self-pay options are also available. Participation with a plan is not a guarantee of coverage for any individual service.

Frequently asked

Common questions

Can medication management be done by telehealth?

Yes. Ongoing medication management is well suited to secure video visits and is available across Hawaiʻi, with in-person Honolulu visits available when appropriate.

Will you continue my current medications?

That is decided together after understanding your history and goals. Sometimes the best step is to continue, sometimes to adjust, and sometimes to reassess the underlying diagnosis.

Are controlled medications prescribed?

When clinically appropriate, and always managed responsibly under professional and state guidelines. No specific medication is guaranteed by an evaluation.

Do you offer second opinions?

Yes. If a current diagnosis or treatment has never quite fit, a psychiatric second opinion can help clarify the picture.
