Tagalog-Speaking Psychiatric Care in Hawaiʻi
Mental health care that respects where you come from — with the option to talk about your care in Tagalog.
Care that feels familiar
For many in Hawaiʻi’s Filipino community, talking about mental health can feel unfamiliar, and being understood culturally makes a real difference. The MindCounsel offers psychiatric telehealth that is attentive to that context, and care can be discussed in Tagalog so that language is one less barrier between you and getting help.
This is offered with respect and without assumptions — every person and family is different. The intention is simply to make care more approachable for those who would feel more at ease this way.
Adults may be seen for adult ADHD evaluation, psychiatric medication management, anxiety, depression and other mood symptoms, diagnostic clarification, and psychiatric second opinions.
Telepsychiatry is available to adults throughout Hawaiʻi by secure video, including communities such as:
In-person visits are available in Honolulu when appropriate.
Confidential and respectful
Mental health care is personal, and many people prefer to keep it confidential. Telepsychiatry lets you meet from a private space of your choosing, without a waiting room and without traveling across the island. Your information is handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws, and visits take place over a secure, encrypted platform.
Concerns about privacy and stigma are common and completely understandable. Telehealth lets you meet from a private place, and your information is kept confidential in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
Using your insurance
The MindCounsel works with several Hawaiʻi health plans, including HMSA and AlohaCare. Because coverage, copays, and behavioral-health benefits vary from plan to plan, we encourage you to verify your specific benefits directly with your insurer before your first visit. Ask about coverage for outpatient psychiatry and telehealth, and about any copay, deductible, or referral requirements. Self-pay options are also available. Participation with a plan is not a guarantee of coverage for any individual service.
